Julie's Felted Friends
United Kingdom
Приєднався 9 жов 2020
I love creating new needle felted items that are fun and hopefully inspirational.
Here on my channel I make beginner's needle felting tutorials or how to guides about my Needle Felting projects.
I'm also creating some videos full of tips and techniques where I am trying to metaphorically teach you how to fish rather than just giving you a fish :)
I hope you like them and find them useful.
I have full instructions for some of my creations available in my Etsy shop here:

Sending speedy healing vibes your way ❤ As for video shorts ideas... I'd love to know how to attach my finished figures to a wooden base. Or any base-focused content! As I can't seem to find any anywhere 🤔 I have some flat-based dolls I'd like to attach to log slices so they stand better etc I see beautiful felted running hares but have no idea how the makers make them stand so steady etc. Base content seems to be lacking online. Hope you're feeling better soon and thank you for all your handy tutorials 😊
Thank you for this suggestion, I suspect they use a wire armature for the hares and take the wire through the base. I will add it to my list of potential future videos, thanks for your comments and for watching.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and a return to good health.

Your videos are fantastic! I'm a brand new felter and find these comparison videos extremely helpful. All of the types of wool and needles are overwhelming to newbies, so the guidance you provide is invaluable.

Weird it all seems common sense 🤔
So this is woolling not felting felt is whats under your owl
Hi there, just to explain, needle felting is the process of stabbing wool fibres with a special needle felting needle that has barbs on it, this helps the fibres tangle together which makes felt. The felt material that you can buy ready made can be manufactured in the same way from wool fibres, but stabbed into a flat thin sheet. Hope this helps, ☺️ thanks for watching.
WOW ! VERY NICE WORK !
Aw thank you, thanks for watching
I was hesitant on getting intonthis art I had so many questions and reading up on it just made it even more confusing... BUT after watching your video I made up my mind. I will be heading out to purchase materials needed hopefully today. Love your video.. VERY EXPLAINATORY... Thank you so much for sharing !
Aw thank you for your lovely comments, so glad I could help and you find the videos explanatory ☺️ I hope you enjoy needle felting, thanks for watching
I made this today and I must say it was a beginner friendly project! I can't do the shell because I don't have any sponges nearby.

Hi I'm from the UK too, can I ask where do you get your supplies? Thanks in advance
Hi there, I get my decent felting needles and felting mat from www.heidifeathers.co.uk I have a video on needles here: ua-cam.com/video/X54z83J7mx8/v-deo.html Most of the wool I've bought recently has come from www.worldofwool.co.uk They have a really good range of carded Corriedale and tops in a variety of breeds, including merino and Corriedale. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
I enjoy every second of it 😭😭
Aw thanks for this 😊 glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching

Aw thank you, thanks for watching
What kind of glue do you use? I don’t know what kind of glue to look for 😭 Not all my little accessories will be the safety eye/nose type, so it’s inevitable
You can use any super glue, I use loctite super glue, but any will do 😊 I probably need to do a video on this but when eyes are sold as "safety eyes" they usually expect people to be using them for making soft toys out of fabric (you may already know this, apologies if you do). So the "safety eyes" come with a little washer that holds them into the soft toy from the other side of the fabric. However when I use them in a felted item it's not possible to use them in this way, so they can no longer be classed as safety eyes, therefore even if you glue them in with the strongest glue possible I would not class a felted item with glued eyes as suitable for children, as they could be pulled out and could be dangerous for small children especially. So the items I make are for decorative purposes only, they are not toys, I hope this makes sense and helps. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
@@juliesfeltedfriends yeah I found some materials listed on another channel’s video and I saw they used Aleene’s tacky glue. So far I have only tested beads on scraps but I got an assortment pack of different tacky glues to test and found their “fast grab” tacky glue to work best for me so far~
going to have to watch this a few times
There is a lot packed into that video 😊 hope you find it helpful, thanks for watching
Definitely not cheating!!
Thanks for this and thank you for watching
tysm i didn’t know why all of my plushies were so airy on the inside and so flat but this video helped me a lot
Aw you're very welcome, so glad you found this helpful, thanks for watching
The needles from my kit are an upgrade from the barebones foam mat w/2 basic needles I started with because they’re multiple sizes/multiple of each(36, 38, 40, 42 G stars) but I guess if I really want to upgrade my tool kit it’s time to buy an assorted needle pack!
Sounds like you have a good variety of gauges now, but yes you might want to try some of the other types/shapes of needle as well. The reverse needle was fun to use too 😊 happy felting and thanks for watching
I just bought my first kit, and I'm nervous about starting the craft. If I mess up, can I take it apart and start over?
Try not to worry about going wrong too much, it's a very forgiving craft. Say your making the body of the item in the kit, my advice would be to not to use all the wool that the kit gives you to make the body as you might need to add a bit more to correct the shaping. You might also find this video on correcting mistakes in needle felting helpful: ua-cam.com/video/8l9GduqwWzg/v-deo.html It shows that you can remove arms/legs/eyes and do them again but you can't take apart wool that has been felted very firmly, but you can add wool to it, but it's harder to take away, you'd have to cut it away with scissors 😊 thanks for the question and thanks for watching
I just found a great replacement for polystyrene (this way it doesn't break down as much when needlefelting in one area a lot) use yoga blocks!!! The material is great and doesn't break down. I shape it with a Dremel! Currently working on a couple marrionettes
Ooh that's a great tip thanks 😊 sounds like it easy to shape and work on, thanks for watching
At the moment I'm not interested in my felting drawers- but I still watch your videos, because I really like, how felting and humor are not mutually exclusive! Kind regards from Germany!
Aw thank you so glad you enjoy the videos as entertainment 😊 and enjoy the humour, I love to hear where my viewers are from so thanks for sharing, I've only visited Germany once but it was beautiful, thanks for watching
I always ask people in my needle felting classes “if you’re not bleeding, are you really crafting?” We also have a pile of band-aids in the middle of the table…we always have at least one bleeder! Thanks for the tips! I always suggest people watch your videos for extra help after our classes! Love your videos!
Thank you so much for this, I love that you have band-aids in the middle of the table 😁 thank you for suggesting my videos I really appreciate it 😊 thank for watching
Thank you Julie for your tips always! The template for the ears and holes for the eyes were an eye opener (not meant to be a pun lol) 😆 I wonder maybe if we could use the templating for the limbs/ legs as a "starter" or base and build it up into 3D/solid. I almost always end up making a leg bigger than the other, but hate to discard felt so I add thin layers of wool bit by bit to the smaller limb to match the bigger one. And if that isn't enough, I make the body of the doll bigger to match the adjusted limbs as well😂 Shows how much I still need to learn...
Thank you for this, so glad you found it helpful, eye opener -like it 😂 I've never tried using a template for legs as a starter 🤔 you could try it and see? It is difficult getting them the same size, your doing the right thing adding a bit at a time though 👍 I still struggle sometimes, so don't be hard on yourself, it's all so good learning 😁 have fun felting and thanks for watching
@@juliesfeltedfriends Thank you for the kind reply! ☺I enjoy felting and once I get into it I end up doing it "forever" 🙃into the wee hours of the morning. Then I feel groggy throughout the day but it's all worth it when I discover and learn things/ways. Always enjoying and looking forward to your videos and the little commentator dolls! 🦉

Aw thank you for this, I'm so glad you found them helpful, thanks for watching
Oh thank you for sharing this! Its so helpful😍 I always have problems with size of my works. I recently was making some base balls for something and it was a horror to make them all the same😆 I should have just cut the same amount of wool and prepare it but I was so sure I will know how much to use just by mesure it with my eyes. Mistake!😆
Glad it was helpful, lol it sounds like something I would have done in the past 😂 I can tend to think 'oh it'll be ok I'll be able to get the same amount again' 🤣 oops! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching
I love your wool felting style
Aw thank you, glad you like it, thanks for watching
What kind of fine comb is that? 8:45
I bought from Sainsbury's supermarket 😁 it's actually a baby comb, thought it looked cute and might be useful for small items 😊 which it is 👍 in case you're in the uk here's the link: www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/cantu-edges-baby-hair-styler but any fine comb would work, hope this helps, thanks for watching
@@juliesfeltedfriends I’m not but it helps to know what kind of comb!
Happy to help :) In case you can't access the link it's called a "Cantu Edges Baby Hair Styler" and was £3 which is about $3.71
@@juliesfeltedfriends I was able to find a “baby comb” on Amazon in a pack of 2. It works wonders! The soft bristle end is also a nice touch
